Dear Neighbor,
The mission of Tonto Rim
Search & Rescue Squad is to find lost hikers, carry out injured, and
recover the unfortunate who have lost their lives in The Tonto
National Forest. Under Arizona law, we respond to emergencies by
authority of the Gila County Sheriffs Office. At the request of the
state SAR Coordinator, we have also been called upon to assist with
other emergencies throughout the state of Arizona.
The TRSAR squad's area of
responsibility has grown considerably in our 40-plus years of
service. We now provide primary search and rescue support throughout
all of northern Gila County. To maintain a high standard of
response, we have located emergency equipment in Payson as well as
at the headquarters building in Strawberry.
We are a group of about 60
dedicated volunteers
who respond to emergencies in
the wilderness. Our high-angle rope rescue specialists, emergency
medical technicians and certified man trackers undergo training
several times a month to prepare for the demands of rigorous life
and death situations. Our volunteers receive no compensation of any
kind and, in fact, provide their own personal equipment.
Please
consider a donation
to help support our cause. Our
annual raffle does not generate adequate funds to support the
specialized rescue equipment, wilderness medical equipment,
specialized training and equipment maintenance necessary in our
efforts.
We receive
no tax dollars or public funds, so we seek community support to help
us protect our neighbors and visitors in wilderness areas. We
appreciate any assistance that you may be able to give us.
We are a 501 C (3)
not-for-profit corporation and your donation is fully
tax-deductible.
