SOCIAL
We had a really nice picnic for all members on Sun Oct 21st at
the Squad property. Everyone that attended had a great time. We
missed those who didn’t make it. Thanks to Patt, Shirley, Tom
Zimmerman and Nan Ridenour.

OTHER ACTIVITIES
We had seven members out to protect the kiddies at the Kids &
Kritters festivities at Strawberry on October 30th.
Thanks to: Ira Gibel, Ron Crimmins, John Boyles, Les Hulse, Jim
Martin, Doug Conklin and Fred Berneche for helping out. No one got
run over and only a few kids got sick on the candy.
Thanks to Myndi Brogdon for inviting us to help out.
****
Thanks also to Ira Gibel for speaking to the Community
Presbyterian Church Women’s Organization on Thursday, November 1st.
Ira shared with them the history and mission of TRSAR and how & why
we operate. They presented him with a donation for the Squad and fed
him lunch. Thanks Ira, for a job well done.
****
Bill Bagley, Chris Christy, Jim Martin and Anita Carnine handled
the booth for the Care Fair on Sat. Oct 27. The turn out was light
but they got to visit with a lot of other local volunteers. Thanks
to them for being there and thanks to Kathleen Bagley for setting it
up.

MISSIONS
No missions this month. Can you believe that?

COMMANDER’S CORNER
Well, it’s election time again and four positions on the Board
are up for election. They are Commander, Secretary and the two Board
positions held by Rick Heffernon and Dave Pirtle. Now, whether or
not these people choose to run is yet to be decided and the
Nominating Committee will be presenting the list of nominees at the
General Meeting on November 8th.
The point is that each Active member has the opportunity to try
for one of these positions. If you feel you would like to have your
name on the ballot, please contact a member of the Nominating
Committee or you may speak up at the General meeting.
The Nominating Committee members are Ron Crimmins, Les Hulse,
John Boyles, Don Peters and Terry Murray.
We have a lot of talent in our members and some of it has yet to
be utilized. This would be a good time for someone new to step up to
the plate.
The Board has taken steps to encourage more participation by our
members and to help us become more proficient at our mission. In
order to reduce liability and risk of injury, we all need to have
more training more often. The change to our Policies & Procedures
effective Jan. 1, 2002 is that all active members will be expected
to attend at least two training sessions each six months in addition
to the six other functions already required. Rope team members will
need to make a minimum of 2 rope training per six months. Reserve
members will be required to attend at least one training each six
months in addition to the two presently required functions per six
months. Some exceptions may occur as deemed acceptable by the Board.
If you have comments or suggestions regarding this change you may
address any Board member.
I feel this is the appropriate place to inform you that after 14
years of Search and Rescue, I have decided to hang up my hat. I will
be taking my Life Member status effective January 1st and
will try to participate as often as possible but will no longer be
your Commander after that date. Hopefully one of you that has the
experience and love of TRSAR will step forward and take the wheel.
I have enjoyed every minute of my association with you and regret
this change but it must be. But I have had my day and it is time for
others to take over. I wish only the best for each of you and the
Squad. May God bless you all.
See you at the meeting.
Mike
